25-Year-Old Brain-Dead Woman Gives Life to Four Through Organ Transplant at AIIMS Jodhpur

Jodhpur- In a remarkable act of generosity and compassion, 25-year-old Anita, a resident of Madawla village in Sindhari Panchayat of Barmer district, has provided new life to four individuals through organ donation after being declared brain dead. Anita's donation included her heart, two kidneys, and liver, which have been successfully transplanted into patients in need.

Anita's journey took a tragic turn on July 16 when she and her two-year-old son, Bharat, were involved in a serious road accident caused by a gravel-laden dumper.

Despite initial hopes for recovery, doctors determined that Anita had suffered irreversible brain damage. Following extensive tests and medical evaluations, it was confirmed that Anita was brain dead.

After waiting ten days for any possible improvement and receiving consent from Anita's in-laws, her family made the commendable decision to donate her organs.

This decision has profoundly impacted the lives of four recipients: a 34-year-old man in Jodhpur who received one of Anita's kidneys, a 59-year-old individual who received her liver, and two other patients in Jaipur who were recipients of her remaining kidney and heart.

To facilitate the swift transportation of the organs, a green corridor was established. Under the leadership of AIIMS Jodhpur’s security chief, Dhanaram, and local police, the organs were transported efficiently.

The heart was flown to Jaipur's SMS Hospital, while one kidney was sent via road to Jaipur, and the remaining kidney was transplanted locally. The entire process was meticulously coordinated to ensure that the organs reached their destinations in optimal condition.

AIIMS Jodhpur has expressed heartfelt gratitude to Anita's family for their extraordinary act of kindness during such a difficult time. The hospital administration commends their noble gesture, which has not only honored Anita's memory but also provided hope and life to those in critical need.

Rajasthan CM Bhajanlal Sharma also acknowledged Anita and her family's compassion in a social media post, writing: "Salute to the giver of life!". He further worte- " The family of the late Smt. Anita Ji, wife of Thakuraram, have set an exceptional example of humanity through their decision to donate their daughter’s heart, liver, and both kidneys. This noble act of organ donation will provide new life to four individuals.The courage demonstrated by both the deceased’s parents and in-laws in making this important decision is truly commendable. Their act of generosity stands as a profound example of human service. Salutations to the entire Godara family for their noble decision, embodying the spirit of 'service to man is service to God."

Experts explain that kidney transplants typically take two to three hours to complete. Organs can be preserved for up to 12 hours, after which they are no longer suitable for transplantation. Specifically, the heart must be transplanted within 4 to 6 hours after death, the kidney within 30 hours, the intestine and pancreas within 6 hours, and the liver within 8 hours.
