Jaipur- In Rajasthan, 59 castes from the Scheduled Caste (SC) category, 12 castes from the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category, and 92 castes from the Other Backward Class (OBC) category currently benefit from reservation policies. This information was revealed by the state government in response to a question posed during the last session of the previous government in the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly.

The government also confirmed that orphaned children have been included in the OBC category for reservation purposes.

BJP MLA Shankar Singh Rawat from Beawar inquired whether the Rawat and Meherat castes would be considered for inclusion in the ST category. The government responded that no such proposal is currently under consideration.

According to a report from the Rajasthan State Backward Classes Commission, an order was issued on August 6, 1994, to include the Rawat and Meherat castes in the state's OBC list.

The government also detailed that the state is home to four major social categories: SC, ST, OBC, and the General category. While the government maintains a comprehensive list of castes within the SC, ST, and OBC categories, no survey has been conducted to identify castes within the General category.

Rajasthan currently provides 16% reservation for SCs, 12% for STs, 21% for OBCs, 5% for Extremely Backward Classes (EBC), and 10% for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS).

Orphaned children have been included in the OBC category for reservation purposes.
