Rajasthan: BJP Reverses Creation of 9 Districts, 3 Divisions During Gehlot Govt

Jaipur- In a cabinet meeting held on Saturday, the newly elected Bhajan Lal Sharma government in Rajasthan decided to annul the creation of nine districts and three divisions established by the previous Ashok Gehlot administration. This decision brings the total number of districts in Rajasthan back to 41 and divisions to 7.

The abolished divisions include Pali, Sikar, and Banswara. Among the nine districts revoked are Dudu, Kekri, Shahpura, Neemkathana, Gangapur City, Jaipur Rural, Jodhpur Rural, Anupgarh, and Sanchore.

According to Rajasthan Minister Jogaram Patel, the decision follows a review committee's findings that these districts and divisions were not viable. The committee cited a lack of proper consideration for factors like financial resources, population, and administrative feasibility. Many of the districts lacked the minimum requirement of 6-7 tehsils.

The government highlighted that the creation of these new administrative units had also placed a strain on the state's resources. No new administrative posts or office buildings were established for these areas, and the attempt to fill 18 departmental posts in each district proved burdensome.

Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma chaired the Cabinet meeting.
