Mumbai - Mumbai Police have obtained crucial evidence identifying the attacker of Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan as Mohammad Shahzad, a 30-year-old Bangladeshi national. This information came to light days after the January 16 incident where Khan was stabbed multiple times during an attempted robbery at his Bandra residence.
The police investigation led to the discovery of Shahzad's Bangladeshi ID and driving license, revealing his full name as Mohammad Shariful Islam Shahzad and his father's name as Mohammad Ruhul Amin. Previously, police had stated that the attacker was a Bangladeshi national who had changed his identity to Vijay Das after illegally entering India six months prior.
Shahzad allegedly broke into Khan's 12th-floor apartment with the intent to steal. When confronted by Khan, the situation escalated into a violent struggle, resulting in Shahzad stabbing the actor multiple times in the back. Shahzad later claimed he stabbed Khan to free himself from the actor's grip.
Following the attack, Khan underwent two surgeries at Lilavati Hospital for his injuries. Police arrested Shahzad on January 19 in Thane after interrogating over 50 individuals and deploying 35 teams across the city.
Shahzad's father, speaking to the press on Thursday, revealed that his son left Bangladesh in April 2024 seeking better job opportunities, feeling his future was bleak in his village.
