New Delhi- To address the problem of ribbon development, unauthorized parking, and encroachments on National Highways, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has introduced a new feature in the "Rajmargyatra" mobile application.
Users can now report such unauthorized activities on National Highways. The new feature will not only empower users to flag such incidents but also improve safety measures along National Highways. The Ministry has also taken steps to improve the management of National Highways and make them safer for motorists.
In order to decongest the stretches passing through built-up areas, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways planned the construction of bypasses, elevated roads, flyovers, underpasses, and foot over bridges, depending on traffic volume, techno-economic feasibility, availability of land and funds, and other inter se priorities. To avoid the reoccurrence of ribbon development, new bypasses and highways are being developed as access-controlled facilities depending on feasibility.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has also requested all State Governments to assist local Revenue and Police authorities in removing unauthorized occupations on National Highways. The Ministry has taken various steps to address the problem of ribbon development and unauthorized parking on National Highways and will continue its efforts to ensure the safety of motorists.
