New Delhi- The Ministry of Panchayati Raj, in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Management Amritsar (IIM Amritsar), is organizing a five-day residential Management Development Programme (MDP) from 2 to 6 September 2024. This initiative aims to enhance the leadership, management, and governance capabilities of Panchayat representatives and officials across ten states, including Arunachal Pradesh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir (UT), Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.
The training, taking place at IIM Amritsar, brings together elected representatives and functionaries from Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) to equip them with the skills needed to improve local governance and effectively serve their communities. Over five days, the program will cover a range of topics such as leadership, management, ethics, rural innovation, Own Source Revenue (OSR), and the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in governance. The sessions will include expert-led discussions, case studies, and interactive activities designed to empower participants with the knowledge and tools necessary to lead their Panchayats more effectively.
This initiative highlights the Ministry's commitment to enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of Panchayats, which are crucial in providing governance and essential services at the grassroots level. By focusing on improving the financial independence of Panchayats through increased Own Source Revenue (OSR), the program aims to create "Saksham" (capable) Panchayats that can better address local needs and drive rural development.
