New Delhi- The government will transform 60 fair price shops into Jan Poshan Kendra and provide better income to the dealers associated with these shops. The union minister of consumer affairs, food and public distribution, and renewable energy, Pralhad Venkatesh Joshi, made the announcement on August 20.
The government will establish a system of Jan Poshan Kendra on the basis of 60 fair price shops in Gujarat, Rajasthan, Telangana, and Uttar Pradesh. The shop will offer nutrition-rich food items to the consumers and provide additional income to the dealers. The Jan Poshan Kendra is part of the first 100 days of the central government's plan to improve food security in the country. Under this, 50 percent of the products will be stored in the category of nutrition, while the remaining items will be kept for other household items.
Union Minister Pralhad Venkatesh Joshi said that the Jan Poshan Kendra will provide a solution to the problem of fair price shop dealers across the country and increase their income level. He said that the government is committed to making the food security system more accessible and transparent. The new initiative will also help in controlling the problem of malnutrition in the country. He said that the government will also provide 50 percent of the nutrition-rich food items to the beneficiaries of the Jan Poshan Kendra through the central government's efforts.
Along with this, the government also launched its 'FPS-Sahay' application. This is an on-demand invoice-based financing (IBF) application for fair price shop dealers. Under this, the benefit of paperless, presence-less, collateral-free, cash flow-based financing will be given to the dealers. The government also launched Mera Ration App 2.0 mobile app. It is designed to provide better services to the beneficiaries of the ration cards.
