Manipur CM Warns Against Spreading Communal Rumors on Social Media

Imphal- Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh warned of strict action against individuals spreading rumors on social media that could incite communal violence. Speaking at a function distributing benefits to labor card holders on Wednesday, Singh expressed concern over the growing trend of misinformation being used to create tension between communities in the state.

He stated that authorities have been directed to identify and take appropriate action against those responsible for spreading such rumors. Singh emphasized the government's commitment to maintaining peace and communal harmony in Manipur, assuring that anyone found guilty of inciting unrest would face consequences.

During the event, the Chief Minister distributed Rs 2.89 crore to approximately 5,225 individuals under a special scheme. This scheme provides financial aid for the education of children from labor card holder families residing in relief camps due to the recent ethnic conflict. Each eligible family received Rs 5,000 through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

Singh cautioned against petty politics, urging people to work together during this crucial period in the state. He highlighted various citizen-centric schemes launched by the BJP-led government, including the 'Chief Minister-gi Hakshelgi Tengbang (CMHT)' for cashless medical treatment, which was launched in January 2018 after considering the hardships faced by the poor and needy people on health care.

Furthermore, he outlined initiatives like the 'Chief Minister gi Artistes singi Tengbang (CMAT)' providing monthly pensions to around 900 artists and the 'One Family, One Livelihood Scheme' benefiting thousands of families. Singh also announced that 500 youth from displaced families will receive skills training in Delhi for cabin crew placements, with funding provided by the Ministry of Tourism. He added that 17 startups have already provided employment to approximately 432 displaced individuals.

Regarding the ongoing ethnic conflict, the Chief Minister assured that the government is committed to providing assistance to those affected. He highlighted the construction of prefabricated houses in Phubala, where around 2,500 people have been relocated to safer locations.
