Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala: Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, inaugurated a newly constructed 300-bedded girls' hostel at the SAI RC LNCPE in Thiruvananthapuram. The inauguration coincided with the announcement that the Khelo India ASMITA Women league has significantly boosted the participation of female athletes in national events.
The Minister stated that this increase in participation reflects a significant investment in the future of young women athletes. He emphasized India's goal of securing a place in the top 10 of the medal tally at the 2036 Olympics. Dr. Mandaviya urged athletes to prioritize representing the country and winning medals for national pride, echoing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Panch Pran.
The hostel, constructed under the Khelo India creation and up-gradation of Infrastructure projects, was completed within the budget of Rs. 32.88 Crores. M/s WAPCOS won the project. Since 2014, the Khelo India scheme has completed 202 infrastructure projects and has 121 more underway.
The pentagon-shaped hostel comprises five blocks, each with a ground floor and three storeys. The innovative architecture maximizes space and promotes a vibrant atmosphere. The facility houses a centralized kitchen serving 108 diners, storage rooms, staff dormitories, and washing areas.
During the event, the Union Minister felicitated sportspersons who have represented India in international games, including Olympians and Asiad participants. Arjuna awardees Padmini Thomas, S Omanakumari, Geethu Anna Jose, Saji Thomas, and V Diju were honored by the Minister.
Dr. G. Kishore, Principal & Regional Head, SAI RC LNCPE, and K.M. Beenamol were present. Beenamol also attended. Dr. Kishore provided an overview of the campus and its achievements during the event.
