Patna- The controversy surrounding the 70th Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) Preliminary Examination intensified on Monday as hundreds of candidates, now joined by renowned educator 'Khan Sir,' protested in Patna's streets. The demonstration, which has continued for over two months, centers on allegations of examination irregularities.
Leading a march to Gardanibagh Dharna Sthal, Khan presented what he describes as evidence of systematic irregularities in the examination process. This development adds significant weight to the ongoing protest movement, which seeks a complete re-examination.
The matter is currently under judicial review at the Patna High Court, where multiple petitions have been consolidated, including those filed by Jan Suraaj, Purnea MP Pappu Yadav, and Khan himself. The petitioners are seeking both a re-examination and the withdrawal of FIRs filed against protesting candidates. While the court initially heard the case on January 16 and requested a BPSC affidavit by January 31, subsequent hearings have faced delays, with the next session scheduled for Monday.
Khan has highlighted several alleged irregularities in the examination process. According to his statement, the December 13 exam used three different question paper sets, with two sets meant for treasury storage. However, reports from Nawada and Gaya treasuries indicate these backup sets were never deposited. The situation became more complex when BPSC had to conduct a re-examination for 12,000 students on January 4 following irregularities at the Bapu Examination Complex. Khan alleges these missing question papers were improperly reused in the January re-examination.
A striking disparity in results has further fueled suspicions, with only 6% of candidates passing the December exam compared to 19% in the January re-examination. Khan argues these discrepancies provide compelling evidence of examination malpractice and believes they will warrant a court-ordered re-examination.
As the protest movement gains momentum and awaits the High Court's decision, the future of the 70th BPSC examination hangs in balance, with implications for thousands of aspiring civil servants in Bihar.
