Kashmiris Secretly Support Abrogation of Article 370- Dr. Singh

New Delhi- Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh stated that the people of Kashmir valley secretly support the abrogation of Article 370, even if they might not express it openly. He believes they recognize that Article 370 hindered their access to benefits enjoyed by the rest of the country, primarily benefiting a select few.

Speaking at the "Rashtra Sarvopari Summit" organized by Republic TV, themed "New India, New Kashmir," Dr. Singh emphasized that the government's decision to revoke Article 370 received widespread support across Jammu & Kashmir. He highlighted the peaceful conduct of recent elections in the region, noting the absence of election boycotts as a positive shift in the political landscape.

Dr. Singh noted that key provisions of the 73rd and 74th amendments empowering local bodies and panchayats were not implemented in Jammu & Kashmir before Article 370 was abrogated. He stated that funds are now directly reaching the local level, benefiting the residents.

The Minister also highlighted the growing engagement of Jammu & Kashmir's youth with mainstream India, driven by opportunities arising from India's increasing global standing. He contrasted the past 25-30 years, marred by terrorism, with the significant improvements in the past decade, including a tenfold increase in startups and the smooth implementation of previously stalled welfare schemes.

Dr. Singh cited the record-breaking 2.5 crore tourists who visited Jammu & Kashmir this year as a clear indicator of the region's return to normalcy. He reaffirmed that Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoJK) is an integral part of India.

Addressing the issue of statehood for Jammu & Kashmir, Dr. Singh, referencing Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, assured that it would be restored at an appropriate time.
