India Poised to Become Global Biomanufacturing Hub

Thiruvananthapuram- India is poised to become a global biomanufacturing hub, driven by science and technology, according to Union Minister of State for Science and Technology (Independent Charge), Dr. Jitendra Singh. Speaking at the inauguration of the CSIR-NIIST Golden Jubilee celebrations and Milestone Observation Program in Thiruvananthapuram, Dr. Singh emphasized the need for a global vision and strategies to achieve this goal.

Sustainability and e-waste management are key priorities for the central government, highlighted Dr. Singh, citing the example of a self-powered indoor air quality monitor he unveiled at Thiruvananthapuram International Airport earlier that day. He also stressed the importance of fostering innovation and entrepreneurship through startups and incubators.

Dr. Singh urged CSIR-NIIST to embrace public-private partnerships and develop innovations that benefit both the scientific and non-scientific communities. During the event, he released the CSIR-NIIST golden jubilee year book and stamp, inaugurated the Centre of Excellence in Performance Chemicals and Sustainable Polymers, and laid the foundation stone for the Centre of Excellence in Ayurveda Research.

CSIR-NIIST Director, Dr. C. Anandharamakrishnan, presented a report on the institute's achievements over the past five decades. The event also included the exchange of MoUs and technology transfers between NIIST and various technological institutions across India. Dr. Singh inaugurated the NIIST Showcase exhibition area, gold testing and hallmark facility, and startup expo.

The celebration was attended by dignitaries including Dr. Sanjay Behari, Director, Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST), and Dr. K.V. Radhakrishnan, Chief Scientist at CSIR-NIIST.
