Election Commission Unwilling to Acknowledge Mistakes: Tariq Anwar

New Delhi – Congress MP Tariq Anwar expressed his strong reaction to the Election Commission’s dismissal of Congress’s complaint regarding EVM issues in Haryana. He also commented on the BJP’s objections to Nawab Malik’s candidacy in Maharashtra and criticized Kirit Somaiya’s labeling of Malik as a terrorist.

On the Election Commission’s rejection of Congress’s EVM complaint in Haryana, Anwar remarked that the commission is unwilling to acknowledge its mistakes and faces serious allegations of not operating with impartiality. He added that the Election Commission often disregards opposition complaints. “As for EVMs, this technology is being phased out worldwide. The country that first implemented EVMs has also discontinued them. The Election Commission must recognize that if other countries are abandoning them, there must be a valid reason,” he noted.

Regarding potential rifts within the NDA coalition, Anwar stated that the BJP’s displeasure over Nawab Malik’s candidacy reflects the weakness of the coalition. He described the alliance as “self-serving,” explaining that if it were based on principles, it would be more successful, but it is only held together by self-interest.

When asked about minor disputes over seats between Congress and Shiv Sena (Uddhav), Anwar said, “We are working to resolve such issues, and we’re confident we will manage to bring our members together.”

Additionally, the Lok Sabha MP wrote a letter to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, urging the reinstatement of travel concessions for senior citizens on train tickets. He emphasized that this concession would provide financial relief to seniors during their journeys.
