CJP Calls SEM Proceedings a "Farce," to Challenge Extended Custody of Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka

New Delhi- The Cockroach Janta Party has severely condemned the Special Executive Magistrate (SEM) court proceedings in Delhi yesterday, terming the ongoing preventive detention of party leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka a complete mockery of legal process and state-sponsored overreach.

Addressing the media after the hearing, Cockroach Janta Party Legal Head Ratna Singh stated that the entire proceedings functioned like a farce designed solely to crush democratic voices. "Our advocates spoke strictly on points of law , yet the authorities failed to present a single piece of evidence showing any threat to public peace," Singh said. Ratna Singh also stated that “There was no protest call given by the CJP after the JC of Ashutosh & Saurav; for the state to claim that there was threat to peace by their release”.

"The SEM remained on phone calls inside the courtroom for three hours while writing the order. The youth of this country are watching how laws & institutions are being blatantly abused to silence them, but these actions will only make citizens stronger and more determined to demand answers."

Defense counsel representing Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka detailed the shocking procedural anomalies in court, pointing out that after the completion of the 5-day preventive custody period, fresh sureties were produced with all required documentation and identity verifications. However, as soon as the item was called, the state presented a fresh application seeking further judicial custody alleging an imminent threat to public order, without citing a single factual basis or statement on record to support their claim.

This is purely preventive custody where no interrogation or investigation is required, yet they have been kept locked up for six days straight simply out of fear that they might exercise their right to protest," defense counsel stated. "The court rejected the fresh sureties on absurd grounds, claiming photographs did not match or that the sureties lacked control over the detainees, after spending 15 minutes questioning each one. The SEM's order offers no explanation for what the alleged apprehension is, merely stating that because the State claims to have an apprehension, they must remain in custody. We will be challenging this order before higher judicial forums immediately."

The Cockroach Janta Party reiterated that no amount of delay tactics or executive intimidation will deter the courage of the party, its cadre and supporters. The CJP demands for the immediate release of its leaders and for institutional accountability.
