Chandigarh and Assam to Pilot Cashless Scheme for Road Accident Victims

New Delhi- The Ministry of Health has planned to implement a cashless treatment scheme for the victims of road accidents. Under this scheme, the eligible victims will be provided with health benefit packages of up to 1.5 lakh rupees. These packages are being provided under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri-Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) for trauma and polytrauma care.

Under the pilot project of the Ministry of Health, the eligible victims of road accidents of any category will be able to avail free treatment up to 1.5 lakh rupees for a period of seven days from the date of the accident. The scheme is being implemented in collaboration with the National Health Authority (NHA). Under the scheme, the state health agency, national informat centre and general insurance council will also be responsible for the implementation. The pilot project will be started in Chandigarh and Assam.

Under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, the Motor Vehicle Accident Fund will provide financial assistance to the victims of road accidents. The fund will be used for the treatment of those injured in road accidents. The government has established this fund to provide cashless treatment to the victims of road accidents.
