New Delhi- The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader, K Kavitha, was released from the Tihar Jail on Tuesday after the Supreme Court granted her bail. The Supreme Court ordered Kavitha's immediate release after her hearing.

Kavanaitha had been in custody for five months. She is facing charges of irregularities in the excise policy case. The CBI and ED are investigating this case. One of the main issues in the case is the allegation of destruction of evidence by Kavitha.

The Supreme Court said that Kavitha had spent five months in custody and the trial is complex. She has been asked not to tamper with the evidence and influence the witnesses. She has also been asked to post a bail bond of Rs 10 lakh for both the CBI and ED cases. In addition, she has also been asked to surrender her passport. The Supreme Court noted that Kavitha is a woman and a member of the Legislative Council.

During the hearing on bail, the government had claimed that Kavitha had destroyed the evidence by changing her phone. However, the lawyer representing Kavitha, Senior Advocate Mukul Rohatgi, said that this allegation was not true. He said that people frequently change their phones. He also said that Kavitha is the daughter of a former Chief Minister and she has no flight risk.

Justice BR Gavai said in a lighter mood, saying that as an MLC, Kavitha will be aware of her responsibilities.
