New Delhi – The historic Ramlila Maidan will host a grand swearing-in ceremony for Delhi’s new Chief Minister on Thursday, as the BJP makes a triumphant return to power in the national capital after 27 years. The event will not only showcase the party’s strength but also highlight its outreach to key voter groups, with auto drivers, cab drivers, and slum dwellers featuring prominently on the guest list. These groups, often targeted with freebies and poll promises during elections, have been a focus for all political parties in the run-up to the Assembly polls.
In a gesture of political courtesy, Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva is expected to extend invitations to former AAP Chief Ministers Arvind Kejriwal and Atishi to attend the ceremony. The new Chief Minister, along with the Council of Ministers, will take the oath of office, administered by Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena, at noon.
The event is set to be a star-studded affair, with top political leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Chief Ministers of BJP-ruled states, in attendance. Additionally, BJP workers and leaders from other states who contributed to the party’s successful campaign in Delhi are also expected to participate.
The ceremony will be preceded by a cultural program featuring music and performances, adding to the celebratory atmosphere. The BJP’s victory in the Delhi Assembly elections marked the end of AAP’s three-term rule, with the party winning 48 out of 70 seats. AAP, led by Arvind Kejriwal, managed to secure only 22 seats, while Congress failed to win any seats for the third consecutive term.
Ahead of the event, Delhi Police issued a traffic advisory on X (formerly Twitter), urging commuters to follow special arrangements in place for the swearing-in ceremony. The advisory stated, “In view of the swearing-in ceremony of the Hon’ble CM of Delhi on February 20, 2025, at Ram Leela Ground, New Delhi, special traffic arrangements have been made. Kindly follow the advisory.”
The ceremony is expected to be a significant moment for the BJP, symbolizing its resurgence in Delhi politics and its commitment to connecting with diverse sections of society.
