New Delhi- The Prime Minister is set to release 109 high-yielding, climate-resilient, and biofortified varieties of crops on August 11 at the India Agricultural Research Institute in New Delhi. This is part of the government's efforts to promote sustainable farming practices and adoption of climate-resilient technologies.

The crop varieties include 34 field crops and 27 horticultural crops. Field crops include seeds of various cereals such as millets, forage crops, oilseeds, pulses, sugarcane, cotton, fiber, and other potential crops. Horticultural crops include different varieties of fruits, vegetable crops, plantation crops, tuber crops, spices, flowers, and medicinal crops.

The release of these 109 varieties of crops is a significant step towards achieving the government's goal of making India free from malnutrition. The initiative is expected to not only improve farmers' income but also provide new avenues of entrepreneurship for them. The Prime Minister has emphasized on promoting biofortified varieties of crops along with several government programs including Mid-Day Meal, Anganwadi, etc.

The release of 109 high-yielding, climate-resilient, and biofortified varieties of crops on August 11 is a step in the right direction and is expected to contribute to the country's food security and nutrition security goals.
