NLC India Celebrates 10 Years of Renewable Energy Milestone

New Delhi- NLC India Limited, a Navratna Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Coal, celebrates its 10th year in renewable energy generation, marking a decade since commissioning its first 10 MW solar plant in Neyveli on September 28, 2015. As the first CPSE in India to generate 1 GW of renewable energy, NLCIL has made significant strides under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of transitioning from “Megawatts to Gigawatts.” With 1,380 MW of solar and 51 MW of wind power capacity, NLCIL has generated 1,234 crore units of green energy, preventing 1 crore tonnes of CO2 emissions and contributing to sustainable power for millions.

Looking ahead, NLCIL aims to achieve 10,000 MW of renewable energy capacity by 2030, supported by new subsidiaries NLC India Renewables Ltd (NIRL) and NLC India Green Energy Ltd (NIGEL). Under the leadership of Union Minister of Coal and Mines Shri G Kishan Reddy, the company is advancing projects in solar, wind, energy storage, green hydrogen, and lignite-to-methanol conversion. With a current capacity of 1.4 GW, NLCIL plans to expand significantly, with major projects in Neyveli, Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Assam, and a recent power purchase agreement for 200 MW of solar energy with Telangana DISCOMs, aligning with India's goal of net-zero emissions by 2070.
