Andhra Pradesh: Flood-hit Vijayawada residents evacuated as river swells

Vijayawada- In response to the severe flooding in NTR and Guntur districts, a significant rescue operation has been launched. A total of 36 teams from the disaster response force, equipped with 152 motorboats and supported by 280 active swimmers, have been deployed to assist those affected. Helicopters and drones are being used to deliver food and medicines to areas that are currently inaccessible.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu personally visited the heavily impacted Singh Nagar area in Vijayawada this evening, traveling by motorboat to oversee ongoing relief efforts.

As the water inflow at Prakasam Barrage on the Krishna River in Vijayawada reaches dangerous levels, authorities are evacuating residents from areas near the retaining wall, Krishna Lanka, and Tadepalli. The flooding has also caused breaches in the Khazipet-Vijayawada and Guntur-Vijayawada railway sections, leading to the cancellation of 275 trains and the diversion of 149 others. Additionally, road traffic on NH 65, which connects Vijayawada and Hyderabad, has been severely disrupted.

The city of Vijayawada and its surrounding areas have been placed on high alert, with the entire official machinery mobilized to support rescue and rehabilitation efforts.
