Udaipur- In a significant move following the tragic death of a student in a stabbing incident, the Rajasthan Education Department has taken strict action against the staff of a government school in Udaipur's walled city area. The incident, which took place at a government senior secondary school in Bhatiyani Chohatta, led to the death of Devraj Mochi, a student who was attacked by a classmate during interval.
The Director of Secondary Education, Ashish Modi, has suspended the school principal, Isha Dharamawat, citing negligence in maintaining vigilance, attendance, and discipline.
In addition to the principal's suspension, Rakesh Jaroli, who was the class teacher of the involved students, has been placed on Awaiting Posting Orders (APO). This action is part of the broader disciplinary measures being taken as the department investigates the circumstances leading to the fatal attack.
The stabbing incident, which occurred on August 16, has sent shockwaves through Udaipur, prompting protests and demands for accountability. Devraj was attacked with a knife by a fellow student from a specific community, leading to heightened tensions in the city. Despite the severity of the incident, initial reports indicated that the school staff did not take the necessary steps to assist the injured student promptly, further fueling public outrage.
Local authorities, including District Collector Arvind Poswal, have acknowledged the negligence on the part of the school administration. The collector’s office had previously sent a letter to the education department, urging strict action against those responsible.
