Students Storm DU North Campus, Demanding Immediate Implementation of UGC Equity Regulations as per the Rohith Act

New Delhi- In a massive show of strength and collective defiance, hundreds of students marched across Delhi University’s North Campus today, reclaiming the streets to demand the immediate reinstatement and strengthening of the UGC Equity Regulations 2026. AISA along with other democratic and progressive organizations organised the 'Equity March', against the systemic exclusion of marginalized students and the recent judicial stay that has halted a crucial instrument of social justice.

The march was a direct response to the Supreme Court’s stay on the 2026 Regulations guidelines that were won after decades of relentless student struggle to combat the pervasive rot of caste based discrimination in higher education. Protesting students emphasized that these regulations are not mere administrative paperwork but represent a hard fought step toward establishing institutional accountability and safety for SC, ST, and OBC students who have historically been pushed to the fringes of the academic space.

Addressing the spirited gathering, Comrade Nitish, Former JNUSU President, highlighted, "After years of blood and toil on the streets, we forced the UGC to introduce regulations that finally spoke the language of accountability, The stay on these guidelines is a clear indication that casteism remains deeply entrenched within the highest echelons of our institutions. This is a battle for the very soul of our universities, and we will not rest until true equality is achieved."!

Anjali, Secretary of AISA Delhi University, situated the current crisis within a broader history of state sponsored marginalization. "The UGC 2026 guidelines were not a gift from the state, they were written in the sacrifices of Rohith Vemula, Payal Tadvi, and Darshan Solanki. Every drop of their blood lies squarely at the door of the BJP-RSS regime, which has consistently prioritized the protection of privileged hierarchies over the lives of marginalized students. We are not just fighting for a set of rules, we are fighting to end centuries of exploitation. We shall never forget, and we shall never forgive the institutional murders that have turned our campuses into graveyards for Dalit, Adivasi and marginalised students dreams."

The protest concluded with a firm resolve to intensify the agitation across the country. AISA declares that the struggle will move beyond the courts and back to the streets until a legally binding UGC guidelines as per the Rohith Act is enacted.
