Udaipur- Rajasthan's Education and Panchayati Raj Minister Madan Dilawar unveiled the Shiksha Sanjeevani Bima Yojana on Wednesday at Residency Girls Higher Secondary School in Udaipur, introducing a groundbreaking personal accident insurance program for students across the state.
This first-of-its-kind initiative in Rajasthan provides accident insurance coverage of Rs 1 lakh to approximately 1.3 lakh government school students in the Udaipur division. Education department officials confirmed that the coverage extends to cases involving the accidental death of a student's parent, offering additional protection for families.
Initially launched in Udaipur, the program is slated for statewide expansion with plans to eventually benefit one crore schoolchildren throughout Rajasthan. The scheme aims to accomplish multiple objectives: ensuring educational continuity, preventing child labor, promoting financial inclusion through Digital India, preventing misuse of insurance claim amounts, developing saving habits from an early age, and providing interest-bearing scholarships until a child turns 18 in the event of a parent's accidental death.
During the ceremony, Minister Dilawar distributed insurance policies and kits to attending students, highlighting the government's commitment to securing the future of schoolchildren while fostering financial security awareness throughout the state.
The minister's team told IANS that this represents the first program of its kind in India. "Presently over one lakh students are benefitted under it in Udaipur, and soon after the scheme will be expanded across Rajasthan and will ensure that all students in the state benefit from it," officials stated.
"Preparations have started in this reference to benefit students from other districts too. We are targeting over a crore students to benefit from this scheme soon," they added.
