Outrage in Bhopal as 8-Year-Old Girl Assigned School Toilet Cleaning Duty Goes Viral

Bhopal- In Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, a distressing incident surfaced where a fourth-class student was assigned the task of cleaning a school toilet. The video of this incident went viral on social media, depicting an 8-year-old girl holding a broom in the restroom. The event unfolded at Government Primary School in Hatai Kheda Plateau, Anand Nagar. The student's father, Babu Yadav, shared that his elder brother's son discovered the girl cleaning the toilet when he went to school to deliver lunch. The family was alerted, and upon reaching the school, they found the daughter with a broom in hand, leading to the creation of the viral video by the elder brother.

Despite warning the school teacher four times about such inappropriate tasks, no improvement was observed, compelling the family to publicize the matter. Babu Yadav's elder brother said that they did not want to make the video public and were hesitant, however, they did so driven by the lack of change despite prior warnings. The assistant teacher, Mary Priscilla Toppo, attributed the incident to the student's brother, denying any involvement in making the girl clean the toilet." We do not make students clean the toilet" she said.

The student had initially confided in her father about the school teacher instructing her to clean the restroom, but the matter gained attention when the elder brother's son witnessed it first hand. Consequently, the family filed a written complaint at the Piplani police station, expressing concern about their daughter being assigned cleaning duties at school. and a scuffle with a sanitation worker, Savita, and her associates who came to their home and allegedly threatened to get them trapped in a legal case.

Anjani Kumar Tripathi, Bhopal District Education Officer, shared that an investigation has been initiated into the matter. Preliminary findings suggest that the student's brother recorded the video after instructing her to clean the toilet, later making it go viral. The Block Resource Coordinator (BRC) conducted the investigation and submitted a report.
