New Delhi– Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) has issued a significant addendum to its Admission Brochure for Bachelor’s and Master’s Programmes for the academic year 2025-26, addressing scholarships and financial assistance schemes.

This development follows persistent efforts by Dr Baba Sahab Ambedkar Association of Engineers  (BANAE), an organization advocating for equitable representation of Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) students, which successfully pushed for the amendment to rectify gaps in the university’s admission process. The addendum, approved by the competent authority, revises Paragraph 3, Point No. 41, to include a broader range of financial support schemes, ensuring greater inclusivity for marginalized students.

The revised Point 41 in the Admission Brochure expands the scope of financial support provided by the Directorate of Students’ Welfare (DSW). The updated provisions now encompass Financial Assistance to Economically Weaker Section (EWS) students, the Delhi Higher & Technical Education Support Scheme under The Delhi Higher Education Aid Trust, Post Matric Scholarship for Students with Disabilities, the Prime Minister’s Scholarship Scheme for Central Armed Police Forces and Assam Rifles, and the PG Indira Gandhi Scholarship for Single Girl Child.

Additionally, it includes scholarships available on the e-district platform, such as the Post Matric Scholarship for OBC, SC, ST, and other eligible students, the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar State Topper Award for SC/ST/OBC/Minority students, and the Merit Scholarship for SC/ST/OBC/Minority Students of College/Professional Institutions. This revision addresses the earlier omission of SC and ST-specific schemes, such as the Post Matric Scholarship for SC/ST students, which had been limited to OBC students in the original brochure.

BANAE General Secretary Sanjay Sagar told The Mooknayak that the organization wrote 19 letters to various authorities, including GGSIPU officials, state and central government secretaries, and directors, highlighting anomalies in the admission process. These efforts received unanimous support from BANAE members during Google Meet discussions. A delegation led by Praveen Sugan, Kataria, Motiram, Shyam Prakash, KP Singh, and Advocate S L Vishal met with directors, secretaries, state ministers, GGSIPU professors, and other officials to advocate for these changes, culminating in the issuance of the addendum. This amendment is a significant step toward ensuring equitable access to financial aid and scholarships for SC and ST students, aligning with the university’s commitment to social welfare and equity.

BANAE emphasized its ongoing efforts to address additional barriers, including the revision of the parental income limit of Rs. 2.5 lakh per annum and the removal of restrictive conditions affecting students from government schools or those with illiterate parents. The organization has written multiple letters to relevant authorities to safeguard the interests of community students and ensure a fair admission process.
