New Delhi- In this exclusive interview with The Mooknayak, former MLA and senior Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader Kunal Sarangi speaks candidly about various issues facing the state. He discusses the pending royalty from the central government, state development schemes, and shares his thoughts on Jharkhand's current political landscape and future plans. Through the conversation, he provides insights into the state's challenges and the government's vision for progress.
Jharkhand is rich in mineral resources that strengthen the nation's economy. However, the central government owes us Rs 1.36 lakh crore in mineral royalties. This money rightfully belongs to Jharkhand and could be used for public welfare. Chief Minister Hemant Soren has raised this issue multiple times, both during elections and after forming the government.
We want to invest this money in education, healthcare, road construction, and other development schemes. But the central government is treating Jharkhand unfairly. Since 2017, when JMM formed the government, central agencies have been harassing the Chief Minister and his government. This is nothing but political vendetta, and the people of Jharkhand are suffering because of this attitude.
If the central government maintains this attitude, we might be forced to stop coal supply. We've been consistently demanding our rights. Recently, at the GST meeting in Jaisalmer, our Finance Minister raised this issue and explained how crucial this amount is for our people. If the center doesn't listen, we'll have to take strict measures.
This victory is undoubtedly the result of people's trust and our work. I was confident about this win. On counting day, I had claimed we would win 45 seats. There are several reasons for this victory. People didn't appreciate the central government's repeated harassment of popular leader Hemant Soren and attempts to imprison him without cause. Additionally, our government implemented several historic welfare schemes:
Maiya Samman Yojana for mothers' welfare
Electricity bill waiver for 40 lakh families
Farm loan waivers
Strong tribal connect through leaders like Kalpana Soren
Unemployment is our state's major problem, and we're working seriously on this. Previously, there was no fixed protocol for government recruitments. We've streamlined this and created a recruitment calendar. We're also developing a solid policy to increase private sector employment opportunities.
Our government is committed to major reforms in education and healthcare. We're working rapidly to address teacher shortages, poor building conditions, and inadequate health services. We've requested financial support from the central government. Once received, we can expedite school and hospital construction, upgrade facilities, and recruit teachers and doctors.
Given the strong mandate from people, we've created an excellent cabinet balancing experienced leaders with new faces. This cabinet has a unique mix of experience and enthusiasm. I'm confident it will do outstanding work for the state's development over the next five years.
Cabinet formation is entirely the Chief Minister's prerogative. Kalpana Soren is a tribal leader with strong public connect. The Chief Minister will decide whether to give her a role in the organization or government.
Hemant Soren has emerged as one of the country's prominent tribal leaders. His popularity is growing beyond Jharkhand. JMM will establish a strong presence in national politics in the coming times. Our focus remains on protecting and uplifting tribal communities, Dalits, and marginalized groups.
My identity was built through JMM and Hemant Soren. I had a personal connection with him before entering politics, and he inspired my political career. While in BJP, I realized they neither had a concrete vision for Jharkhand's development nor strong leadership. That's why I returned to JMM, and now I'll stay with my original party.
Education is the most powerful tool for marginalized groups. Our government is fully committed to connecting Dalit and tribal communities with education. We'll implement welfare schemes not just on paper but on the ground. Jharkhand's government always stands with marginalized groups' rights and dignity.
This was just BJP's electoral tactic aimed at polarization. After the elections, BJP stopped discussing this issue. Moreover, no concrete evidence of infiltration was found. It was merely a strategy to distract people.
