Raebareli (Uttar Pradesh): In a shocking incident reported from Jagatpur Police Station area of the district, a Dalit youth named Mukesh Paswan was allegedly taken 350 kilometers away from his ancestral home in Ramgarh Tikariya village to work in brick kilns. Mukesh claimed one Sunil Tiwari and his son Anuj Tiwari took him along promising a monthly wage of Rs 20,000. However, when Mukesh asked for some money to buy food in the evening, an argument ensued, allegedly leading to the poor man being beaten and injured by the Tiwaris.

The victim recounted, “When I asked Sunil for money to buy food, he started hurling casteist abuses at me. He refused to pay and assaulted me along with his son Anuj. They locked me in a room and beat me up severely. Later, they abandoned me and returned home.”

Mukesh, in a critical condition, managed to reach home with the help of a bus driver who took him to the hospital.

Upon returning, the victim filed a written complaint at the Jagatpur Police Station. However, cops have not yet registered a first information report (FIR) in the case. The station house officer (SHO) of Jagatpur informed, “The incident did not occur in my jurisdiction; the assault took place in Azamgarh. Therefore, a case cannot be registered here.”

Mukesh allegedly contacted the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Raebareli to report the assault and denial of action. The public relations officer (PRO) of the SP purportedly responded, stating that the SP was busy at the moment.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed officials to take strict action, and further updates on the case are awaited.
