Bhopal- The high-profile Barodia Nonagir Dalit murder case in Madhya Pradesh has led to calls for a CBI investigation. The Congress party has demanded this from the government.
On Wednesday morning, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav visited the village of Barodia Nonagir to meet with the family of the deceased Anjana Ahirwar.
The Chief Minister assured the family of their safety and promised that the perpetrators would be swiftly and severely punished. He also directed the establishment of a police outpost in the village. Following this, the Chief Minister met with the family of Anjana's uncle.
Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has announced a financial assistance package of ₹8,25,000 for the family of the deceased Rajendra Ahirwar. Half of this amount will be deposited into the family's bank account and the remaining half will be provided after the chargesheet is filed. Additionally, the Chief Minister has ordered the establishment of a police outpost in the village to ensure such incidents do not recur.
The Congress party has raised objections to the presence of former minister and Khurai MLA Bhupendra Singh during the Chief Minister's visit. They tweeted a photo of Dr. Yadav with Singh, alleging that the main conspirator of the murder case is in the photo and questioning whether the Chief Minister's visit was meant to support or intimidate the victim's family.
Earlier, Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee President Jitu Patwari visited the victim's family and facilitated a phone call with Rahul Gandhi. Patwari demanded a CBI investigation into the incident and urged the government to provide ₹50 lakh in assistance to the family. Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar has also echoed the call for a CBI probe.
In the village of Barodia Nonagir in Sagar district, a Dalit girl named Anjana filed a molestation case in 2019 against some local individuals. On August 24, the accused, who had been pressuring the family to settle the case, visited Anjana's house. When no agreement was reached on the settlement, the accused—Vikram Singh Thakur, Komal Singh Thakur, Azad Singh Thakur, and others—vandalized the Dalit family's home. On their way back, they brutally beat Anjana's brother, Nitin Ahirwar.
Upon hearing about the assault on Nitin, his mother rushed to the scene to save her son. The assailants then beat the mother and stripped her naked. Nitin, in a critical condition from the beating, was admitted to the local hospital and later referred to the Sagar district hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
At the time, the deceased's sister told The Mooknayak that the accused had been harassing her since 2019. When they filed a complaint seeking justice, her brother was killed. She recounted how the attackers continued to beat her brother with sticks even after he fell to the ground in the village market. When her mother intervened to save him, she was also beaten and stripped. The sister vowed, "We will get justice at any cost."
Last year, former Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh visited Barodia Nonagir to ensure justice for the victims. During his visit, Anjana and her mother tied rakhi on his wrist. Digvijaya Singh had then said, "I will fulfill the duty of a brother and uncle. I will not rest until I get justice for you. From today, this is my family."
