Narsinghpur: In a shocking incident in Narsinghpur district, Madhya Pradesh, a Dalit man was allegedly forced to drink urine after being detained and beaten by two upper-caste individuals, according to an official statement released on Monday.

The FIR (First Information Report) lodged at the SC/ST police station in the district states that the incident occurred on July 30 in Barha village, located in the Gadarwara tehsil.

According to the FIR, the victim had earlier freed 32 acres of grazing land that had been encroached upon by local bullies in the village.

The accused have been identified as Sallu Budholia and Suraj Kachera. They face several charges under the Bharatiya Nyay Samhita, including Section 296 (public obscenity), Section 115 (voluntarily causing hurt), Section 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), Section 351(2) (criminal intimidation), and Section 3(5) (joint criminal liability). Additionally, they have been charged under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

The FIR states that the 34-year-old victim claimed Budholia and Kachera, who were acquaintances, abducted him on a motorcycle, detained him, and demanded 2 lakh rupees from Premnarayan Verma. When the victim refused, he was allegedly brutally beaten and subjected to caste-based insults.

The report further indicates that the accused later took the victim to a restaurant where they had a meal with Verma. After Verma left, Budholia and Kachera allegedly assaulted the victim again, took him back to the Barha Bada, and forced him to drink urine during the journey.

The FIR notes that the victim is known in the village for his role in freeing the 32 acres of grazing land from local encroachers.

Narsinghpur Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar informed reporters, "Budholia and Kachera have been detained. We have promptly filed the FIR and the investigation is ongoing."

This incident is reminiscent of a case from July last year when a video went viral showing an Adivasi youth being urinated on by a person named Pravesh Shukla, who was reportedly close to former BJP MLA Kedarnath Shukla. The video sparked nationwide outrage, leading to then-Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan visiting the victim's home to wash his feet as an act of atonement. Similar incidents continue to emerge in the state.
