New Delhi: 25 December 1927 is the date when Dr. Babasaheb Bhim Rao Ambedkar openly burnt Manusmriti. This step of Babasaheb is seen as the struggle of Dalits against Brahmanism. From 1927 till now, December 25 has been celebrated as Manusmriti Dahan Day. This year also, people raised their voices against orthodox thinking by burning Manusmriti on 25th December.

Well, doing this has cost a woman journalist a lot. This woman journalist is none other than Meena Kotwal, the founder of 'The Mooknayak' and she is now getting death threats.

What is the whole matter?

On the occasion of Manusmriti Dahan Diwas, Meena Kotwal shared a video on social media of her burning Manusmriti. She further wrote in the caption, "Did you burn Manusmriti today like me? It's fun, it's something else… just like this, burn this cheap book today and share the photo video. Now we will continue to do this continuously, not only will we burn it, but we will destroy its thoughts. Babasaheb did the same thing. It was fun to start the fire like this."

Since this tweet, she is constantly getting threatening calls. Her number has also been circulated on many groups and social media, after which she is constantly receiving death threats. Meena herself has given this information by tweeting an audio recording of a phone call.

She tweeted and wrote, "Listen to this phone call and see how many casteist and malevolent people there are…Is burning Manusmriti against Brahmins? They are saying that you do not have the right to drink a brahmin's pee, so much hatred for the Dalits? Abusing and swearing mothers and sisters foul words, they are saying our women stay at home and are not uneducated like you."

In this way, Meena is constantly getting threatening phone calls and she further shared the information about the threats by tweeting one after the other on Sunday. She tweeted, "If anything happens to me or my family, Bajrang Dal and other organizations like this will be responsible."

She wrote that one Aman Kakodia, who claims himself to be of Bajrang Dal, is calling me and asking me to delete the video. She has also shared the call recording in which there is a conversation between her and the person who claims to be associated with Bajrang Dal.

Support by Chandrashekhar Azad

Meena Kotwal and her family have been protected by the Bhim Army itself since the death threats were received continuously.

Yes! Bhim Army Chief Chandrashekhar Azad tweeted and raised his voice in support of Meena Kotwal and talked about security. He wrote, "The cowardly act of intimidating the young Bahujan voice of fearless journalism, Behen Meena Kotwal ji by the goons of RSS-funded Bajrang Dal, is highly condemnable. Sister Meena, do not get distracted by these anti-national goons, the entire Bhim Army-Azad Samaj Party is standing with you.

Meena Kotwal also informed about this by tweeting. She wrote, "Bhim Army, Delhi Pradesh Bhim Army (Bharat Ekta Mission) and their companions are at home, people from every section of the society have come, all say that the work Babasaheb did 100 years ago, we will do that in future also."

Congress leaders at Meena's home

In this fight of right and wrong, Meena Kotwal has now got the support of Congress. On Tuesday, Congress's Scheduled Castes Department President Rajesh Lilothia ji met Meena Kotwal.

Rajesh Lilothia tweeted, "'Manusmriti vs Indian Constitution' RSS wants to implement Manusmriti in the country, the same Manusmriti which is the main reason for atrocities on women and Dalits. Today I burnt Manusmriti along with Bahujan journalist Meena Kotwal. Will not allow the Indian Constitution to be weakened."

Support on social media

People are continuously raising their voice in support of Meena Kotwal on social media. People are tweeting demanding security to Meena and her family.

One user wrote that from the day "power" will have the "daring" to ask "question", that day you will be "free" in the true sense, "government" whatever it may be".

National Dastak tweeted in support of Meena Kotwal and said, "Daily some Bahujan journalist is getting threats directly or indirectly. This is a very serious matter. #MeenaKotwalNeedsSecurity"
