Mumbai- A case has been registered against Shiv Sena (UBT) candidate and Sanjay Raut's brother Sunil Raut at Mumbai's Vikhroli Police Station. The case has been filed under sections 79, 351(2), and 356(2) of the BNS for making derogatory remarks against woman.
Sunil Raut is accused of recently making discriminatory comments against women, wherein he referred to the female candidate from the Shiv Sena Shinde faction as a "goat." Raut made these remarks during a public address. Speaking in Hindi to the attendees, he said that when the election campaign began, he was observing who would stand against him. He stated that while candidates should be competitive, no one had the courage to face him. He then made the controversial statement that "when they should have fielded a male candidate (literally: 'goat'), they put a female candidate (literally: 'she-goat') against me. We will slaughter the goat on the 20th."
Notably, Maharashtra Assembly elections are scheduled for November 20. Sunil Raut claimed that not only would he win the election but also become a minister. However, he faced significant backlash for his inappropriate language. Suvarna Karanje, the Shiv Sena candidate from Vikhroli Assembly constituency, filed a complaint about this incident at the nearest police station. The police registered the case and launched an investigation.
Sunil Raut is contesting for the third time as Shiv Sena (UBT) candidate from Vikhroli Assembly, while the Shiv Sena Shinde faction has fielded Suvarna Karanje as their candidate. A controversial video of Sunil Raut has also emerged where he says, "I have been an MLA for 10 years. When they couldn't find any candidate, they brought a 'goat' to stand against me."
It's worth noting that the Maharashtra Assembly elections, scheduled for November 20, will see single-phase voting across 288 seats, with results to be announced on November 23.
