Ken-Betwa Link Project Gets Central Push for Land Acquisition

Centre urges UP, MP to expedite process for irrigation in Bundelkhand

The Centre has urged Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh to expedite the land acquisition process for the Ken-Betwa Link Project. The project aims to transport excess water from the Ken River in Madhya Pradesh to the Betwa River in Uttar Pradesh for irrigation in the Bundelkhand region.

During the meeting, the Steering Committee of the Ken-Betwa Link Project Authority emphasised the importance of the project for the Bundelkhand region. The committee also discussed the implementation of the Daudhan Dam in a timely manner.

The Secretary of the Department of Water Resources, River Development, and Ganga Rejuvenation, Debashree Mukherjee, highlighted the importance of the project for the Bundelkhand region. She emphasised the need for the best practices in the construction of the project so as to safeguard the environment and biodiversity of the community development area.

The Secretary also appreciated the Government of Madhya Pradesh's timely transfer of the land to the Forest Department as per the condition of the Stage-II Forest Clearance.

The Secretary requested the governments of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh to work together for the acquisition of the land for the Link Canal.
