The Assam government has warned of heavy rains in some parts of Lower Assam and Barak Valley as the second wave of floods continues to affect the state.

According to the IMD, nearly 24 lakh people have been affected by the floods with more than 53 thousand people taking shelter in nearly 300 relief camps. The state disaster response force along with other agencies are engaged in rescue and relief operations.

The IMD further said that the body of the eight-year-old child who fell in a drain while returning home with his father has been recovered from the Guwahati river today. The child was found to be dead after three days.

The Assam government is taking all possible measures to help the flood-affected people, the IMD said in a statement. The state public health department is providing pure drinking water, halogen tablets, as well as setting up sanitary toilets. A medical team along with medicines has also been deployed to the relief camps. Baby foods and baby care support are also being provided. So far, no report of any diseases outbreak in the relief camps have been reported.
