Drop in Educated Unemployment Rates Among Tribal Communities: Centre Highlights Positive Trends

According to the PLFS report, the estimated unemployment rates among the tribal community were 3.4% in 2019-20, 2.7% in 2020-21, 2.4% in 2021-22, and 1.8% in 2022-23.

New Delhi- The number of educated unemployed individuals from tribal communities in India is continuously decreasing. The central government, through various schemes, is not only providing employment but also improving their employability.

This information was shared by Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment Shobha Karandlaje in response to an unstarred question raised by Udaipur MP Dr. Manna Lal Rawat in the Lok Sabha.

She stated that, according to the PLFS report, the estimated unemployment rates among the tribal community were 3.4% in 2019-20, 2.7% in 2020-21, 2.4% in 2021-22, and 1.8% in 2022-23.

The Minister elaborated on the efforts being made to provide employment opportunities to these individuals. The central government has taken various measures in Rajasthan to create jobs. Different ministries and departments of the Indian government, including the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Ministry of Rural Development, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Textiles, and Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, are implementing various employment generation schemes and programs.

These include the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushal Yojana (DDU-GKY), Rural Self Employment Training Institutes (RSETIs), Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Urban Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NULM), and Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY). In addition, the government has increased capital expenditure to boost employment creation across the country, including in Rajasthan.

Furthermore, the government is implementing various skill development schemes such as the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS), National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS), and Craftsmen Training Scheme (CTS) through Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) across the country, including Rajasthan. From 2019-20 to 2022-23, these schemes have benefitted 11,07,220 individuals, including Scheduled Tribe persons.

The expansion will provide more opportunities for tribal children to access educational facilities.

Increased Study Facilities for Tribal Children in Rajasthan

The BJP government in Rajasthan is making continuous efforts to enhance educational facilities for tribal children. Administrative approval of Rs. 37.95 crore has been issued for increasing the capacity of Ashram hostels and residential schools in the TSP (Tribal Sub-Plan) areas of Udaipur, Banswara, Dungarpur, Pratapgarh, and Baran districts.

According to TAD Commissioner Pragya Kevalramani, approval of Rs. 31.55 crore has been granted for 156 new dormitories in 30 Ashram hostels across these districts, which will expand accommodation for 555 additional boys and girls. Additionally, Rs. 6.40 crore has been approved for 15 new dormitories each in one residential school in Dungarpur and Banswara.

The increased capacity of these hostels will be as follows:

  • In Udaipur district, additional accommodation will be provided for 25 students each at the tribal girls' hostels in Gogunda, Dabok, and Jhadol. The tribal boys' hostels in Oda, Gorana, Nalwa, Patiya, Ardivli, Kalyanpur, and Barapal will each add 10 students, and the Sarera tribal hostel will accommodate 25 more students.

  • In Salumbar district, the capacity will increase by 25 students each at the Salumbar girls' hostel and the Sarada boys' hostel.

  • In Banswara district, additional accommodation for 15 students will be provided at the Ashram hostel in Badi Sarwa, 10 at the boys' hostel in Vajwana, 25 at the boys' hostel in Bhungda, 15 at the Saredi Badi hostel, and 25 at the girls' hostel in Badlia.

  • In Dungarpur district, the capacity will be increased by 15 students at the boys' hostel in Obri, 5 at the girls' hostel in Bichiwada, and 15 at the boys' hostel in Simlawada.

  • In Pratapgarh district, additional accommodation will be provided for 25 students at the girls' hostel in Devgarh and 15 students at the girls' hostel in Salmgarh.

  • In Baran district, the capacity will increase by 50 students at the boys' hostel in Samraniya, 25 each at the boys' hostels in Agar, Khanda Sahrol, Hatri, and Khandela, and 10 each at the boys' hostels in Kasba Thana and Bajrangd.

The capacity of residential schools will also be increased by 120 seats, with 60 additional seats each at the Government Tribal Girls Residential Schools in Sagwara, Dungarpur, and Harengji Ka Kheda. This expansion will provide more opportunities for tribal children to access educational facilities.
