Nagaur - In a remarkable display of social harmony and leadership, the Rajput community of Gudha Jodha village in Nagaur took center stage in ensuring the peaceful procession (Bindoli) of a groom riding a horse—a tradition often fraught with tensions in caste-sensitive regions.

Amid fears of potential backlash against Prakash Jangid, a groom from a non-dominant caste, the Rajput community stepped forward to lead the Bindoli. Jaswant Singh Thata, the village head and a prominent Rajput leader, personally held the reins of the groom’s horse and escorted him to the village temple dedicated to Thakur Ji. This act of solidarity sent a powerful message of equality and mutual respect, bridging social divides.

Understanding the sensitivities surrounding the event, members of the Rajput community actively participated in the wedding procession, reinforcing the importance of social harmony. Jaswant Singh’s gesture of holding the horse’s reins became the highlight of the event, symbolizing their commitment to fostering equality and peace within the village.

Proactive Measures in the Face of Fear

The groom’s family had earlier sought police protection, citing past incidents in the region where similar ceremonies faced opposition. A minor incident during a wedding two years ago had left the family apprehensive about potential disruptions. Responding to their concerns, the district administration deployed 120 police personnel, including officers from eight police stations, to ensure the event proceeded without conflict.

District Collector Arun Kumar Purohit, recognizing the gravity of the situation, directed senior officials to oversee the proceedings. Riyabari Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Suresh K.M. and other officers closely monitored the event. The collaborative efforts of the administration and the Rajput community ensured a seamless and peaceful ceremony.

The wedding, held on December 6, concluded without any untoward incidents. The active involvement of the Rajput community not only diffused tensions but also set a precedent for future events in the region. Their leadership in embracing and promoting social equality was lauded by all, turning a potentially tense occasion into a celebration of unity and progress.
