New Delhi- The legendary actor, Mithun Chakraborty, will be conferred with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Lifetime Achievement Award for 2022, acknowledging his extraordinary contributions to Indian cinema. Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Railways, and Electronics & IT, Ashwini Vaishnaw, made the announcement, expressing pride in recognizing one of Indian cinema’s most iconic figures.

Renowned for his versatility, charismatic screen presence, and unparalleled dance moves, Mithun Chakraborty's journey has left an indelible mark on the film industry.

The Award will be conferred during the 70th National Film Awards ceremony on October 8. The selection committee for the award included distinguished personalities like Asha Parekh, Khushbu Sundar, and Vipul Amrutlal Shah.

Mithun Da: A Source of Inspiration

Vaishnaw highlighted how Mithun Chakraborty's career has inspired generations. His story, from humble beginnings to becoming a celebrated film icon, is a testament to hope, perseverance, and the pursuit of dreams. Chakraborty's dedication to his craft has made him a role model for aspiring actors and artists across the country.

Born as Gourang Chakraborty on June 16, 1950, in Kolkata, West Bengal, Mithun Chakraborty gained national recognition with his very first film, "Mrigayaa" (1976), for which he received the National Film Award for Best Actor.

Mrigayaa also won the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Movie apart from being nominated for the Golden Prize at the 10th Moscow International Film Festival in 1977.

An alumnus of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Mithun refined his acting skills, laying the foundation for his illustrious career.

Mithun Chakraborty's career soared to unprecedented heights in the 1980s, especially with his role in "Disco Dancer" (1982). Mithun Da’s filmography boasts over 350 films in various languages, including Hindi, Bengali, Odia, Bhojpuri, and Telugu. He has won three National Film Awards, for "Mrigayaa" (1976), "Tahader Katha" (1992), and "Swami Vivekananda" (1998), demonstrating his unparalleled range as an actor. In addition, his unforgettable performance in "Agneepath" earned him the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1990.
