Chennai- The Tamil Nadu State Executive Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has vehemently condemned the alleged abduction and gang rape of a young woman by local functionaries of the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) near Srivaikundam in Thoothukudi district.

In a press statement issued by state secretary P. Shanmugam, the CPI(M) detailed the horrific incident, stating that the accused, identified as Balamurugan and Jayapaul, local TVK administrators from the Srivaikundam area, lured the victim by promising to secure her a job.

The CPI(M) alleged that the perpetrators invoked the name of Srivaikundam MLA V.G. Saravanan to gain the victim's trust before taking her away in a car. Once inside the vehicle, they reportedly drugged her by spiking a cold drink and then subjected her to a brutal gang rape.

The statement further claimed that the accused threatened to kill the young woman if she disclosed the assault to anyone. It also alleged that MLA V.G. Saravanan himself later contacted the victim and intimidated her, warning her not to file a police complaint. The revelation of the incident through media channels has reportedly sent shockwaves across Tamil Nadu.

Police have since registered a case and arrested two individuals in connection with the crime.

The CPI(M) has issued a strong set of demands to the state government, emphasizing the need for a transparent investigation free from political interference. "Since those involved in this crime are ruling party functionaries, we demand a free and fair investigation without any political pressure," the release stated.

The party urged the state to ensure that all allegations raised by the victim are thoroughly probed and that stringent legal action is taken against the guilty, irrespective of their position.

Furthermore, the CPI(M) demanded that the state government provide adequate security, a government job, and proper compensation to the survivor.

In a broader critique, the party noted a disturbing rise in sexual violence against women and children in Tamil Nadu, often facilitated by the misuse of power, money, political influence, and official positions. The CPI(M) called on the Tamil Nadu government to urgently implement concrete measures to prevent such crimes and ensure the safety and security of women and children across the state.
