Chhindwara: In one of the most cruel, inhuman and shocking incident that has come to light from Chhindwara in Madhya Pradesh, a mentally challenged tribal girl was gang-raped by two men who had helped her with her father's last rites. The accused, identified as Sanjay Kavareti and Rahul Sareyam, had assisted in the cremation of the girl's father, who had passed away due to illness. However, the same night after the funeral, they took advantage of the girl's vulnerability and raped her. The next day, they repeated their despicable act.

Unable to comprehend father's demise

The victim, who was 24 years old, had a mental condition equivalent to that of a 5-year-old girl. Her mother, brother and aunt had died some years ago and her father raised her since their death. He died of illness on September 19. She was unable to comprehend that her father had passed away. She continued to believe that he was sleeping, even as the foul smell emanating from the house became unbearable.

With no other family members to take care of her, the girl was left locked inside the house with her father's dead body for three to four days, without any food or water. When the neighbours discovered the foul smell emanating from the house, they broke the door and found the girl in a traumatized state.

The accused took advantage of the girl's innocence and helplessness, causing her immense physical and emotional trauma. The villagers who got to know about the incident immediately informed the police, leading to the arrest of the accused. The police registered a case against the accused under severe sections of gangrape. They were produced before the court which sent them to jail.

The incident has sent shockwaves across the state, with people condemning the heinous act and demanding strict punishment for the accused. The police have assured that they will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that justice is served to the victim and that the accused receive the strictest punishment possible for their barbaric crime.
