Mysuru- Police in Mysuru detained a man on Monday for a controversial social media post celebrating the Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) defeat in the Delhi Assembly elections and making communal comments against a specific religious group. The post, targeting leaders including Arvind Kejriwal, Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav went viral, sparking tension in the city.

The controversial post sparked immediate protests, with members of the minority community gathering outside Udayagiri police station demanding action. Despite initial attempts at peaceful resolution, including intervention from religious leaders, the situation escalated as protesters began pelting stones at the police station. Law enforcement had to resort to lathi-charge and tear gas to control the crowd, eventually managing to defuse the situation with help from local political leaders and additional police forces.

This incident bears similarities to a 2022 case in Hubballi, where derogatory social media comments about Islam led to violent protests and attacks on police personnel. While the Karnataka government recently decided to withdraw cases against over 150 people involved in the Hubballi riots, drawing criticism from the BJP, tensions remain high in Mysuru as authorities work to maintain peace in the affected areas.
