Are we going to keep looking for temples under every mosque, asks Shivsena Leader

New Delhi - Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Priyanka Chaturvedi condemned the increasing trend of communal polarization in India on Monday, particularly the politicization of temple-mosque issues. Chaturvedi, a Rajya Sabha MP, stressed the dangers of such actions and called for immediate intervention to prevent further unrest.

Speaking to IANS, Chaturvedi questioned the motives behind the recent spate of disputes involving religious sites. "Are we going to keep looking for temples under every mosque and create chaos in the country? This is an attempt to polarise the nation further," she stated.

She urged for an end to such actions, highlighting RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s earlier statement discouraging the search for temples beneath mosques and the Supreme Court's directive following the Ram Mandir verdict.

Chaturvedi also expressed concern over the misuse of the Places of Worship Act in district courts, citing the recent violence in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, where over four people died. She warned that similar disputes could escalate in places like Ajmer, Nizamuddin, and Haji Ali, drawing parallels to previous issues surrounding the Ajmer Sharif dargah in Rajasthan.

The Shiv Sena (UBT) leader criticized the Uttar Pradesh government for failing to maintain law and order in Sambhal during the recent unrest. She questioned whether the government was incapable of controlling the situation or if they allowed it to escalate for political gains. Chaturvedi also criticized the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance in Maharashtra, calling it unstable. She cited acting Chief Minister Eknath Shinde's recent absences from key meetings and the ongoing delays in forming a new government. "If everything is fine, why did Shinde return to his village after meeting BJP leaders in Delhi?" she asked. "This ongoing uncertainty is against Maharashtra’s interests."

Chaturvedi lamented that Opposition leaders like Akhilesh Yadav and Congress members were prevented from visiting Sambhal to interact with affected communities and promote peace. She demanded a swift resolution to Maharashtra's political situation, noting that despite rumors of a December 5 swearing-in, no formal notice has been issued by the Governor or coalition parties.
