Jaipur- In a significant development, the Bhajan Lal government has granted reprieve to 47 BJP leaders, including Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, former MLA Bhavani Singh Rajawat, Chandrakanta Meghwal, and Anil Jain, by withdrawing a case filed against them for obstructing National Highway.

The case stemmed from a protest staged back in the year 2012, when the leaders rallied against the condition of National Highway 52 stretching from Kota to Jhalawar.

During the protest near Dhabadeh, the highway was blocked for approximately 4 to 5 hours, drawing legal action from the then Congress government led by Ashok Gehlot. Though initially involving hundreds, charges were eventually pressed against 49 individuals, with the case being heard in the Ramganj Mandi Court.

According to lawyer Ghanshyam Dhakad of Ramganj Mandi Court, the protest occurred in October 2012, during which the leaders obstructed the highway near Dhabadeh for approximately many hours.

During the protest, several leaders from the Ramganj Mandi area, including the then MLA Om Birla, Bhavani Singh Rajawat, Chandrakanta Meghwal, and Anil Jain, participated. At that time, Ashok Gehlot's Congress government was in power, and a case was filed against these leaders at the Modak police station.

The case involved hundreds of individuals, with charges pressed against 49 accused after investigation. The remaining individuals involved could not be identified. The case was under trial in the Ramganj Mandi Court.

In 2018, following the formation of the Congress government in the state, efforts commenced to withdraw this case.

Permission was sought from the High Court to proceed with the withdrawal, and upon receiving approval, the case was presented in the Ramganj Mandi Court on Monday.

Subsequently, the government successfully withdrew the case. Tragically, two BJP leaders passed away during the prolonged legal proceedings spanning nearly 11 years. The withdrawal of the case comes as a significant relief for the accused leaders, with 47 individuals benefitting from the resolution of this matter.
