Mumbai — The Students Islamic Organisation of India (SIO), Maharashtra South Zone, organized a joint press conference today at the Marathi Patrakar Sangh, Mumbai, as part of Palestine Solidarity Week. The event aimed to raise awareness about the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza and urge the international community to act swiftly.

Speaking at the conference, Simab Khan, State President of SIO South Maharashtra, stressed the urgency of holding Israel accountable for its actions.

“India has historically stood in support of the Palestinian cause, but the Government’s silence on the ongoing genocide in Gaza is deeply concerning. The administrative response to pro-Palestine protests reflects a worrying indifference to the plight of Palestinians, as seen in recent observations made by the judges of the Bombay High Court. We urge the Indian Government to adopt a more proactive stance and work towards addressing the humanitarian emergency in Gaza.”

Tushar Gandhi, noted author and social activist, echoed these concerns, stating:

The blockade on humanitarian aid to Gaza starkly exposes the world’s apathy towards the Palestinian struggle. It is imperative that we continue to amplify the voices of the oppressed and demand justice and freedom for Palestine.

Harshali Potdar, an independent activist, underlined the significance of global solidarity, saying:

As global citizens, it is our moral responsibility to stand with the people of Palestine. We must collectively work to spotlight their suffering and push for policy reforms that uphold their rights and dignity.

Also addressing the gathering, Haseeb Bhatkar, Vice President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Maharashtra, remarked:

The situation in Gaza is a humanitarian emergency that calls for immediate international attention. We appeal to global institutions and governments to take concrete steps to alleviate the suffering of Palestinians and work towards a sustainable resolution.

The press conference served as a vital platform for dialogue, awareness-building, and advocacy. Speakers called for unity, empathy, and decisive international action to support Palestinian rights and bring an end to the humanitarian catastrophe unfolding in Gaza.
