Telangana Assembly Passes Resolution for Bharat Ratna to Dr. Manmohan Singh

Hyderabad - The Telangana Assembly unanimously passed a resolution today to recommend Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honor, for former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, who recently passed away. The resolution, moved by Chief Minister A. Revant Reddy, was adopted during a special session of the Assembly convened to pay tribute to the late Prime Minister.

The Assembly acknowledged Dr. Singh's significant contributions to India's progress and the formation of Telangana. The resolution highlighted his role in the creation of the state, stating that the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act of 2014 was passed during his tenure as Prime Minister, fulfilling a decades-long aspiration of the people. The Assembly also recognized Dr. Singh's transformative social programs as Prime Minister, including the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), the Right to Information Act, the National Rural Health Mission, and the Aadhaar program.

Chief Minister Reddy highlighted Telangana's appreciation for Dr. Singh's pivotal role in the state's creation. He also highlighted the late Prime Minister's vision and leadership in elevating India's global stature.

The Assembly also beschlossen to install a statue of Dr. Manmohan Singh in Hyderabad to commemorate his legacy. The Chief Minister suggested that the statue be placed in the Financial District to honor Dr. Singh's close association with Telangana and his contributions to India's economic progress. The Chief Minister said the statue's prominent placement lets people pay tributes to the late leader on his birth and death anniversaries and draws inspiration from him.

Leaders from across party lines paid rich tributes to Dr. Manmohan Singh, recalling his close association with Telangana. Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K.T. Rama Rao expressed his party's full support for conferring the Bharat Ratna on Dr. Singh, emphasizing that the late leader deserved the highest honor.

The Assembly session concluded with a deep sense of condolence to Dr. Manmohan Singh's family, recognizing his multifaceted service to the nation as an internationally acclaimed economist, Chief Economic Advisor, RBI Governor, Deputy Chairperson of the Planning Commission, Finance Minister, and Prime Minister.
