New Delhi- Doctors at Tata Memorial Hospital have cautioned against relying on diet alone to cure cancer, following a viral video of former cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu promoting an alternative treatment. Sidhu claimed his wife's breast cancer was cured by avoiding dairy products and sugar, along with consuming turmeric and neem.

In a statement shared on X, Tata Memorial Trust oncologists emphasized that while diet plays a supportive role in cancer treatment, it is not a standalone cure. "Cancer cure typically requires medical interventions like surgery, chemotherapy, and targeted therapies," they stated. The doctors added that dietary changes and nutraceuticals can complement medical treatments but lack scientific validation as sole cures.

Sidhu's claims, which included his wife's eating regimen of one meal a day between 10 a.m. and 6:30 p.m., were met with skepticism by the medical professionals. "These statements have no high-quality evidence to support them," the Tata Memorial doctors asserted. They urged the public to seek professional medical advice and not delay treatment based on unproven remedies.

The statement was signed by 262 current and former oncologists from Tata Memorial Hospital, highlighting the weight of their collective expertise. The hospital stressed the importance of early cancer detection and emphasized proven treatments like surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy. The Tata Memorial Hospital urged the public to combat misinformation by sharing the statement widely.
