New Delhi- Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra expressed overwhelming gratitude to the people of Wayanad, Kerala, after securing a resounding victory in the Lok Sabha by-election held on November 13. Her win marks a significant milestone for the Gandhi family, as she becomes the third member to serve in Parliament simultaneously, alongside her mother, Sonia Gandhi, a Rajya Sabha MP, and brother, Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra won her debut election with a massive margin of 4,10,931 votes. Taking to social media, she expressed her heartfelt gratitude, stating, "My dearest sisters and brothers of Wayanad, I am overwhelmed with gratitude for the trust you have placed in me." She further added, "I will make sure that, over time, you truly feel this victory has been your victory and the person you chose to represent you understands your hopes and dreams and fights for you as one of your own."
The Congress General Secretary also acknowledged the efforts of her campaign team, UDF colleagues, Kerala leaders, workers, volunteers, and office colleagues. She expressed gratitude for their support and hard work, specifically mentioning the long hours and dedication of her team, stating, "Thank you for your support, for tolerating my 12 hour a day (no food, no rest) car journeys, and for fighting like true soldiers for the ideals we all believe in."
State unit Congress president and Kannur MP (Lok Sabha) K. Sudhakaran interpreted the election results as a rejection of the BJP and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's governance. Rahul Mamkoothathil won the Palakkad Assembly seat with 18,840 votes.
