New Delhi- Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal conducted a surprise inspection of the Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences (IHBAS) hospital in Delhi on Sunday and revealed severe shortcomings in the healthcare system. Maliwal's visit brought to light the lack of essential medicines, drinking water, and unhygienic conditions at the hospital, contradicting the Aam Aadmi Party government's claims of world-class healthcare facilities in the capital.

Patients, including elderly individuals aged 70 to 80, were forced to wait for hours in the cold for medicines that were often unavailable. Some patients even spent the entire night waiting on the street. Maliwal shared her observations on X, formerly known as Twitter, stating that the hospital's counter opened in the morning, leading to a chaotic rush for medicines that were not always available.

"Outside this hospital, I found 70-80-year-old men and women shivering in the cold. Is this the respect for the elderly and women? Neither the toilets are clean, nor do they get drinking water," Maliwal said, criticizing the lack of basic amenities. She further questioned the government's reliance on social media reels and press conferences to present a rosy picture that starkly contrasts with the ground reality.

The hospital, formerly known as the Hospital for Mental Diseases, Shahdara, specializes in mental health and neurosciences research.
