New Delhi — In a significant step towards supporting student mental health, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) has inaugurated a Mental Health Promotion Unit within its Department of Psychology. The initiative comes at a time when student stress, anxiety, and depression are increasingly under the spotlight.

The unit was officially launched on Thursday by Vice Chancellor Prof. Mazhar Asif, alongside Registrar Prof. Mahtab Alam Rizvi and Dean Prof. Mohd Muslim Khan. The event witnessed the presence of faculty members, students, and departmental heads.

Addressing the gathering, Prof. Sheema Aleem, Head of the Department of Psychology, emphasized the importance of the initiative. “This isn’t just another room. It’s a quiet, non-judgmental space where students can walk in, talk, and seek professional help. I urge students—if you ever feel overwhelmed, don’t hesitate to reach out. You don’t have to go through it alone,” she said.
