Medical community demands justice, protection

The Mooknayak English

New Delhi- Various doctors' forums and associations have taken to the streets across the country to protest against the horrific rape and murder of a doctor at R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has called for a 24-hour strike to demand justice for the victim and protection of the doctors' community from further attacks.

According to reports, only emergency services are still open in various cities in the country while the rest of the medical community is on strike. The IMA's strike call has resulted in the suspension of services in private hospitals in many states, including Tamil Nadu.

The TN state-unit of the IMA said that while emergency services will not be affected in private hospitals, the doctors on strike will continue to do their duties in hospitals under their control. This has led to the suspension of patient services in many general hospitals in the state.

In Maharashtra, doctors' associations from different parts of the state have joined the strike. This has resulted in the closure of a number of general hospitals in the state. A protest was also organized by the BMC MARD, representing resident doctors from Sion, Nair, Cooper, and KEM hospitals in Mumbai. The protesters are demanding justice for the victim and condemning the mob attack on the hospital.

The IMA has called on all its members to unite and support the strike. The strike has evoked a heavy response from doctors' organisations across the country, with many joining the call for justice for the murdered doctor. This strike has also raised serious concerns about the safety of doctors and their patients in the country.
