BJP Calls for Action Against Kerala Over Waste Dumping

Tamil Nadu BJP President accuses DMK government of turning border districts into dumping grounds

The Mooknayak English

Chennai- Tamil Nadu BJP President K. Annamalai has called upon the state government to take immediate action against Kerala for allegedly dumping garbage in border districts. Annamalai, in a statement on social media platform X, accused the ruling DMK government of allowing the districts of Kanyakumari, Tenkasi, and Tirunelveli to become dumping grounds for Kerala's biomedical, plastic, and meat waste. BJP President Annamalai criticized Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, stating that he has allowed these districts to be used as a dumping ground despite ceding Tamil Nadu’s rights, including Cauvery water, to states ruled by his coalition parties.

Annamalai claimed that the border checkpoints, intended to prevent such illegal activities, have become mere collection centers. He further alleged that the DMK government is turning a blind eye to the smuggling of minerals from Tenkasi and Kanyakumari districts into Kerala while allowing Tamil Nadu to be used as a dumping site.

The BJP leader stated that despite repeated complaints to authorities and the Chief Minister’s Special Cell, no action has been taken. He warned that if the situation persists, the BJP will mobilize public support in the first week of January 2025 and transport the dumped waste back to Kerala. Annamalai even stated he would personally travel in the first truck.

Annamalai's statement follows reports of large volumes of biomedical, food, and plastic waste found dumped in several villages, including Kodaganallur and Palavoor. The waste allegedly originates from Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram Regional Cancer Centre (RCC) and a private hospital.

Among the dumped materials, hazardous biomedical items such as used syringes and PPE kits were found, posing significant health and environmental risks. Additionally, medical records containing sensitive personal information of cancer patients treated at RCC were discovered, raising concerns about a data breach. Some of these documents were dated as recently as November 2024.
