Hyderabad - Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy urged the Union Minister for Housing and Urban Development, Manohar Lal Khattar, to sanction 20 lakh houses for the state under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) 2.0. This request came during a review meeting held in Hyderabad on Friday, focusing on urban development, PMAY (Urban), and the power sector.
Reddy highlighted that Telangana, contributing 8% of India's urban population, deserves a significant allocation of houses under the scheme. He emphasized the state's commitment to the program, being the first to join PMAY 2.0 and possessing comprehensive data and a detailed construction plan.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister drew attention to Hyderabad's inadequate metro connectivity compared to cities like Delhi, Chennai, and Bangalore. He briefed the Union Minister on the proposed six corridors under Metro Phase-II, for which DPRs (Detailed Project Reports) for five corridors (76.4 km) have been submitted to the Centre. The project requires a total of Rs 24,269 crore, and Reddy requested Khattar's approval for the DPRs and allocation of funds under a Joint Venture between the Central and State governments.
In addition to housing, Reddy urged the Union Minister to support the Musi River Rejuvenation project. He requested Rs 10,000 crore for the project, emphasizing its importance in preventing sewage from entering the river. The project involves constructing canals on a 55 km stretch (of the total 110 km), box drains, and Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) on both sides of the river.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister informed Khattar about the Comprehensive Sewerage Major Plan (CSMP) prepared for Hyderabad city and 27 nearby urban bodies. The plan, estimated at Rs 17,212 crore, aims to develop a comprehensive sewerage network. Reddy requested the Centre to consider the CSMP under AMRUT 2.0 or as a special project and provide funding.
Lastly, CM Reddy and Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka jointly appealed for the allocation of 1 lakh solar pumps under PM Kusum to ensure a consistent irrigation water supply for tribal farmers in Telangana.
